Star Trek: The Motion Picture

Star Trek The Motion Picture reunites the crew of the USS Enterprise for their first feature film adventure. The story begins when a vast and mysterious energy cloud enters Federation space and destroys three Klingon battle cruisers. The strange phenomenon continues toward Earth, leading Starfleet to send the newly refitted Enterprise to investigate.

Admiral James T. Kirk takes command of the Enterprise for the mission, bringing together familiar officers including Captain Willard Decker, Dr. Leonard McCoy, Montgomery Scott, Hikaru Sulu, Pavel Chekov, and Nyota Uhura. The Enterprise has undergone a major refit, giving the crew a substantially upgraded starship with new systems and technology.

Commander Spock also returns to the Enterprise after spending time on his home planet Vulcan. His experiences there have strengthened his dedication to Vulcan logic and emotional control, creating an interesting contrast with the human members of the crew.

As the Enterprise approaches the mysterious energy cloud, the crew discovers that the phenomenon is connected to an enormous and highly advanced entity known as V'Ger. The Enterprise must carefully investigate this powerful presence while trying to determine its intentions and why it is traveling toward Earth.

The mission brings Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Decker, and the rest of the Enterprise crew into contact with technology far beyond anything previously encountered by Starfleet. Lieutenant Ilia, a Deltan serving aboard the Enterprise, also becomes an important part of the unfolding mystery.

Set between Earth, Vulcan, and the vast reaches of Federation space, Star Trek The Motion Picture takes the Enterprise crew on an unusual adventure centered on exploration, discovery, advanced technology, and the search for answers. The film places less emphasis on traditional space battles and more emphasis on mystery and the wonder of encountering something humanity does not yet understand.
